Category merge[edit]

A merge notice has been placed on Category:History of Basque Country as this category already existed and was more complete. As the Basque Country is an ambiguous term (see Basque Country), this is a more neutral title that can refer to all the 'Basque lands' and the Basque people and culture. In any case, 'Basque Country' requires a 'the'. Mtiedemann 15:43, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And why not merge that on this. Just like the article of history of Catalonia. If you admite the history of Catalonia like a country you must admite Basque Country like a country. Mustn´t you? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.99.38.159 (talkcontribs) 14:45, 17 July 2006.

From Category talk:History of Basque Country:

Ok. It must be with The. But i dont see any ambiguity. The autonomous comunnity is not the Basque Country. You can call it Euskadi or Basque Autonomous Comunity. So, THE basque country is all the land and people were there are basques between France and Spain

The key issue is that there is already a category for these articles. If you want to change the name of the category, you should not just create a new one, you need to follow the proper procedures as at WP:CFD so that you give proper reasons and so that others have a chance to comment.
Incidentally, there is constant controversy on Wikipedia about the term 'Basque Country' with those whom I assume to be pushing a Spanish-centred view of the matter claiming it only extends to the autonomous community. I disagree and feel the best way forward is to be clear on every occasion when naming articles and categories. Mtiedemann 17:56, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
