Untitled comments[edit]

What about Sue Rodriguez? She was diagnosed with ALS but died another way (suicide). Are there any objections to this category including her, or is there another category I'm missing? Wencer 02:52, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since this category is about living people, she is not eligible. A better question is: should she continue to be listed in Category:Deaths from motor neurone disease, since she did not die directly from the disease -- a discussion that should take place there, not here. - 99.120.130.167 (talk) 19:37, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
When scientists or actors die, we do not remove them from all "scientist" or "actor" categories, because that's what they were in life. Likewise, people with ALS do not cease to have been people with ALS simply because they died. "People with motor neuron disease" is the only appropriately named category for people with ALS who died of other causes. Bueller 007 (talk) 17:42, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What about Dr. Rahamim Melamed Cohen, who lives an extremely fulfilling life with ALS. Checked & culled the entire category[edit]

I have just finished checking all entries in this category to see if they are still alive & eligible for inclusion. I found that the following are deceased:

  • Gary Lewis (running back)
  • Matt Hazeltine
  • Mark R. Kravitz
  • Glenn Montgomery
  • Eric Scoggins
  • Bob Waters *
  • Wally Hilgenberg *
  • Gloria Taylor (patient) **

I have removed them from this category; and, if necessary, added them to Category:Deaths from motor neurone disease.

Notes:

"*" Bob Waters' & Wally Hilgenberg's articles strongly imply, but do not explicitly state, that they died from the disease. Both were already included in Category:Deaths from motor neurone disease.
"**" Gloria Taylor's article states she died of an unrelated illness.

Suggestion[edit]

Since:

  1. There is (currently) no cure for ALS.
  2. "The median survival time from onset to death is around 39 months, and only 4% survive longer than 10 years.";
  3. My experience today removing 8 entries from this category suggests that removing articles from this category may be commonly overlooked when updating them to include a date of death.

Should there be a way of flagging articles about living people who have ALS so that they do not stay in this category after their demise? If so, how? -- 99.120.130.167 (talk) 20:19, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
