Embarcadero Technologies is an American based database tools and application development tools software company founded in October 1993 by Stephen Wong and Stuart Browning with just a single database tool for Sybase DBAs — Rapid SQL (released in December the same year).[1][2] It currently produces tools for database design, development and management, for platforms including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, Sybase and MySQL.

In April 2000, Embarcadero Technologies was listed on NASDAQ. In November the same year, the company acquired GDPro, a UML design solution provider. In October 2005, a data security solution provider, Ambeo, was acquired. Two years later, in June 2007, Thoma Cressey Bravo bought Embarcadero and it became a private company.[3] Wayne Williams was appointed chief executive officer of Embarcadero Technologies in 2007.
The company headquarters are in San Francisco with other offices in Toronto, Melbourne, Munich, Maidenhead (United Kingdom)[4] and Iaşi (Romania). The company currently has an annual revenue of $US 60 million and has more than 270 employees.
On May 7 2008 Borland Software Corporation announced that its software development tools division, CodeGear, was to be sold to Embarcadero Technologies for an expected $23 million price and $7 million in CodeGear accounts receivables retained by Borland.[5] The acquisition closed on 30 June 2008 for approximately $24.5 million.[6]

Since its foundation, Embarcadero Technologies has released several database-related products.
Rapid SQL is a cross-platform SQL IDE meant to help database developers produce SQL code. The product was first launched in December 1993.[1]
DBArtisan is a cross-platform database administration tool and solution for data availability, performance, and security. The product was first launched in April 1994.
ER/Studio is data modeling tool for designing and understanding databases. The product was first launched in March 1996.
Change Manager is a database change management tool allowing a database administrator or developer to compare, version, monitor, and alter database schemas. The tool also supports comparisons and synchronization for data and configuration settings. Change Manager includes an automation command line and runs on Windows and Linux. The product was first launched in March 1999.
Performance Center is a tool to monitor database performance. The product was first launched in March 2001.
EA/Studio is a conceptual modeling tool for creating a graphical representation business concepts that describe business processes that detail how a business operates. The latest release came in December 2008.
Schema Examiner is a database schema tool that will review and find design errors in a database schema.
PowerSQL is a SQL IDE for Application Developers. PowerSQL offers native support for IBM DB2 for LUW, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Sybase as well as JDBC. PowerSQL is available as a stand-alone application or as an Eclipse plugin.
DBOptimizer helps developers and DBAs to discover, diagnose, and optimize poor-performing SQL. It is a SQL Profiling and Tuning IDE tool.
InterBase is a relational database management system (RDBMS) currently developed and marketed by CodeGear. InterBase is distinguished from other DBMSs by its small footprint, close to zero administration requirements, and multi-generational architecture. InterBase runs on the Linux, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Solaris operating systems.

In July 2008 Embarcadero acquired CodeGear.[7] As part of the acquisition, Embarcadero obtained a number of application development products.
Delphi is development environment for software developers and database application developers who need maintain software applications.
RAD Studio is a rapid application development program for software developers and ISVs who need to build native Windows, .NET, Web, and database applications.
Delphi for PHP is an IDE and rapid application development framework for the PHP. The VCL includes many components that can be used dynamically with each other.
Delphi/400 for PHP is a program for to developing PHP applications for System i using visual components in place of hand writing lines of code. Delphi/400 for PHP is an integrated visual Rapid Application Development (RAD) environment for PHP.
3rdRail is an integrated development environment to allow visual development and coding of Ruby on Rails applications.
JBuilder is a Java IDE built on the open source Eclipse framework.
Turbo C++ is a C++ compiler and integrated development environment (IDE) from Borland. The original Turbo C++ product line was put on hiatus after 1994, and was revived in 2006 as an introductory-level IDE, essentially a stripped-down version of their flagship C++ Builder. Turbo C++ 2006 was released on September 5, 2006 and is available in 'Explorer' and 'Professional' editions. The Explorer edition is free to download and distribute while the Professional edition is a commercial product. The professional edition is no longer available for purchase from Borland.
C++ Builder is a rapid application development (RAD) environment produced by the CodeGear subsidiary of Borland for writing programs in the C++ programming language. C++ Builder combines the Visual Component Library and IDE written in Delphi with a C++ compiler. The release cycle is such that Delphi gets major enhancements first, with C++ Builder following.[1] Most components developed in Delphi can be used in C++ Builder with no modification, although the reverse is not true.
JGear plug-ins work with leading Eclipse Java IDEs including MyEclipse, BEA Workshop, IBM Rational Application Developer, JBuilder, as well as the baseline Eclipse JDT configuration.
