Summary

Description

This artifact was written in Middle Chinese and cursive Man'yōgana (Early Middle Japanese). The following is introduction from Tokyo National Museum which is also the preserving institution:

紙本墨書 30.3×266 平安時代・貞観9年（867） 東京国立博物館。
円珍を含む讃岐国（香川県）の那珂郡と多度郡の因支首（いみきのおびと）一族六家の者が、一族の祖が住んだ土地にちなんだ和気公（わけきみ）と改姓したいと上申したことについて、讃岐国府の次官が作成して太政官に送った解（げ上申書）である。「廣雄」という名がのちの円珍。字面に讃岐国の印が押される。

此国解准太守告更不出云〻



改姓人夾名勘録進上 許礼波奈世
无尓加 官尓末之多末波无 見太
末ふ波可り止奈毛お毛ふ 抑刑
大史乃多末比天 定以出賜 いと与
可良無
           有年申

Noted that 「世」is written as the hentaigana 「」,「可」is written as the hentaigana 「」and「良」is written as the hentaigana 「」. Additionally, the cursive forms of「多」 and「無」 is very simplified and ambiguous.「〻」is just a iteration mark.

Modern transliteration

Transliterating Man'yōgana into hirogana(the words inside parentheses remain as Middle Chinese):

むにか 官にましたまはむ みた
まふはかりとなもおもふ 抑刑
大史のたまひて (定以出賜) いとよ
