Summary

Description 8 3-car sets built in 1950 were employed on local services between Manchester Piccadilly and Hadfield via Glossop. This, the Woodhead Line, was electrified at 1500V dc. Upon closure beyond Hadfield, the line was electrified at 25kV and as a result the units were withdrawn by December of 1984, a few months after this picture was taken. In the platform at Manchester Piccadilly on 17 July 1984 with car no. M59404 closest to the camera. These units were never to carry set numbers.
