| Description |
English: BR Diagram 1/211 12 ton fitted, ventilated, 'PALVAN' pallet goods van No.B778782, Lot 3191, built 1959 at Faverdale, TOPS code VPV. All plywood body. After BR service this van served at rhe Royal Ordnance Factory, Glascoed as No.ROF 18871. BR (Faverdale and Wolverton) built 2,388 Diagram 1/211's in 1952-61, all vaccuum braked. Diagram 1/211 was BR's initial attempt at a ventilated van to handle pallets and, unusually, had bodies entirely made of plywood. Unfortunately, they proved insufficiently robust to cope with the frequent loading of palletised goods, consequently suffering from excessive wear and instability at speed with the result that they had a very short life. They were replaced in production by the far stonger Diagram 1/217 'VANWIDE'. At Norchard, Dean Forest Railway, 26 August 2019. |
