Description
English: 386th B.G.(M), 9th Air Force USAAF Memorial, Easton Lodge/Great Dunmow, Essex UK National Inventory of War Memorials No.22972 http://www.ukniwm.org.uk/server/show/conMemorial.22972

The 386th Bomb Group ("The Crusaders") of the United States Army Air Force moved from nearby Boxted with their B-26 bombers to the airfield built in the grounds of the Easton Lodge estate on 25th September 1943, known as: "Station 164", Dummow, Easton Lodge or Great Easton. They departed for Beaumont-sur-Oise, about 20 miles north of Paris on 2nd October 1944. This memorial was erected by the Essex Anglo-American Goodwill Association (EAAGA) and consists of a front panel with the EAAGA blue symbol and below: "We Salute And Commemorate The Courage Of Our Gallant Allies Of The American Army Air Force Who Flew Out Against The Enemy From This Essex Airfield 1941-5", and "Essex Anglo-American Goodwill Association" at the base. The left and right side of the memorial detail those Killed In Action or Missing In Action from the 552nd, 553rd, 554th and 555th Bomb Squadrons (available in other detail images). For more details on the history of this and other Essex airfields, many in use by the USAAF, see: "Essex Airfields In The Second World War" by Graham Smith, published by Countryside Books ISBN 1 85306 405 X. It was in place in May 2007 when photographed by Mr Richard E Flagg whose images are available here:
