Description

Photograph taken on 31 January 1938 of the junction of Meanwood Road and Bulmer Street in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It shows tramlines and shops in the foreground on Meanwood Road, and the massive and probably odorous Ashfield Leather Works in the background.

In the back-to-back houses behind the Ashfield Works, Will Scott (1893-1964), was born. He was author of The Cherrys series of children's books, and of the stage play The Limping Man, which was made into two films.
