Description
English: U.S. Navy sailors inspect the damage from a Japanese 110 kg bomb which was dropped on the aft aircraft elevator of the escort carrier USS Fanshaw Bay (CVE-70) on 17 June 1944 during the Marianas and Palau Islands campaign. This photograph was taken whilst the carrier was in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, for repairs, 5 July 1944. Note the size of the hole when compared to the man seen on the flight deck, and the size of the men on the hangar deck involved in inspecting the damage. Note the torpedo stowage.
