Description

English: JAKARTA – Currently, masks have become one of the most important needs of everyone. To be safe from COVID-19, everyone must wear a mask when going out of the house. History says that masks have been used by the world community for a long time, especially when facing an epidemic.

One of the historians, Bonnie Triyana said the oldest traceable masks began in Europe in the 17th century which were shaped like birds and were used to deal with the disease that was ravaging at the time.

"This mask was used because there was an epidemic at that time, to prevent the spread of disease from the air, and the beak is usually filled with herbs, so it looks like spices," said Bonnie at a talk show at Graha BNPB, Jakarta, Friday (28/8).
