Nederlands: Schildering. Artistieke interpretatie van Kala Sungsang, "Demon Ondersteboven'. Tekeningen van deze demon, die traditioneel wordt weergegeven als een monster dat op zijn handen staat, worden boven de deur van het huis gehangen om de bewoners te vrijwaren voor boze invloeden (Hooykaas, nr. 53, tekst pag. 25).
De schilder I Dewa Gede Sobrat (of: Soberat; ook wel genoemd Anak Agung Gede Sobrat) werd in 1911 geboren te Ubud, Bali, in een familie van hoge kaste. Van zijn grootvader leerde hij wayangpoppen snijden en kleuren. Rondom 1930 werd hij leerling van de Duitse schilder Walter Spies, die zich op Bali had gevestigd. Hij woonde ongeveer een jaar lang in diens huis. Later kreeg hij ook les van de Nederlandse schilder Rudolf Bonnet, die Sobrat beschouwde als de meest getalenteerde Balinese schilder van zijn generatie (F. Haks e.a., p. 94). Sobrat was lid van de bekende Pita Maha schilderschool (Djelantik, p. 33-34). Enkele van zijn werken worden beschouwd als de meest spectaculaire van de vooroorlogse Balinese modernisten.
