Summary

Description
English: Capel Gwladys memorial. On Gelligaer and Merthyr Common is this memorial in the form of a Celtic cross. The inscription simply says "Capel Gwladys circa 430 AD". A close up appears here 625560. The memorial stands on the site of Capel Gwladys, an early Christian incursion into the area. There is no evidence of a settlement, though that does not deny its existence. Gwladys was the mother of St. Cadoc and Tydfil the Martyr (Merthyr Tydfil). Beyond is a typical part of the common.
