Summary
| Description |
English: A small beetle about 1cm long found under the bark of several Forest Red Gums in Dungog Common.
According to the Amateur Entomology Australia Facebook group, it is a native True Darkling Beetle (Chalcopteroides species). However it has also been suggested it maybe a Amarygmus species: several species have been shuffled between these 2 closely related genera. There are many similar looking species within this genus that are commonly found on, and under, the bark of Eucalyptus. They are all black with an iridescent sheen. One distinct feature of this genus is its head held vertically against its body. |
