Description
Nederlands: De eerste Amsterdamse Hortus Medicus (tuin met medicinale planten) werd in 1638 gesticht in de Reguliershof. Dit was een oud kloosterterrein dat destijds buiten de stad lag, op de plaats waar zich tegenwoordig de Utrechtsestraat en de Keizersgracht bevinden. Chirurgijns en apothekers gebruikten de kruiden om medicijnen van te maken, en konden in de Hortus de medicinale planten bestuderen. Dat was in deze tijd hard nodig, omdat de pest grote aantal slachtoffers eiste onder de bevolking. In 1682 verhuisde de Hortus naar de huidige locatie in de Plantage. Chirurgijns en apothekers hadden een toegangspenning nodig om hier naar binnen te mogen. Deze toegangspenning was van arts en chirurg Andreas Bonn (1738-1817), die zich in 1764 als geneesheer in Amsterdam vestigde. In 1771 werd hij benoemd tot hoogleraar in de ontleed- en heelkunde aan het Athenaeum Illustre. De Amsterdamse Andreas Bonnstraat is naar hem vernoemd.
