Summary

Description
Deutsch: Lok 38 3552 der Deutschen Bundesbahn mit Planzug im August 1965 in Crailsheim.
English: A German DB class 38 steam locomotive. Class 38 (later class 038) Class 38 was originally built as class P 8 of the Prussian state railroad (KPEV). About 3700 locomotives were built from 1908 to 1926. They were used for a great variety of passenger and freight trains. In 1965, they were mainly for mid-level passenger trains. Top speed was 100 km/h. Some remained in regular service until 1974. The locomotive had a 2'C wheel arrangement.
Original description:
A German DB class 38 steam locomotive, probably on a train that we were about to board. Class 38 (later class 038) Class 38 was originally built as class P 8 of the Prussian state railroad (KPEV)/ About 3,700 locomotives were built from 1908 to 1926. They were used for a great variety of passenger and freight trains. In 1965, they were mainly for mid-level passenger trains. Top speed was 100 kph (62 mph). Some remained in regular service until 1974. The locomotive had a 2 C (4-6-0) wheel arrangement. Crailsheim was the major railroad junction in the area, We changed trains in Crailsheim on most of our train trips. It was an area where steam locomotives remained in service longer, as they were replaced by electric and diesel locomotives in other parts of Germany. I bought an original set of number plates of a class 38 locomotive that had been scrapped in the late 1960s. I still have the plates displayed on a wall at home.
