Object history
Deutsch: Liebenzell gehörte seit 1273 den Markgrafen von Baden und wird erstmals 1388 „Stadt" genannt. Stadt und Amt gelangten 1603 im Tausch an Württemberg. 1926 wurde Liebenzell das Prädikat „Bad" verliehen. Die Nutzung der Thermalquellen, seit 1403 nachweisbar, wurde im 17. Jahrhundert vom württembergischen Hof besonders begünstigt, was sich im Wappen niederschlägt. Enthielt das Siegel des 16. Jahrhunderts noch den badischen Wappenschild, so zeigt der 1604 gestochene Stempel bereits das Wappen mit der Badeszene und der württembergischen Hirschstange. Die Zeichnung und die seit 1609 belegte Tingierung wechselten in Einzelheiten. So wurde bis in jüngster Zeit die badende Gestalt als Frau abgebildet, wohl wegen der unrichtigen Herleitung des Ortsnamens von der Heiligen Lioba. Die heutige Farbgebung und die Flagge legte man 1914 fest.
