Object history
Deutsch: Der Name des im Kinzigtal gelegenen Ortes ist möglicherweise aus dem Tiernamen Biber und dem althochdeutschen „aha" (= Wasser) zusammengesetzt. Der Ort gehörte zum Gebiet der Reichsstadt Zell am Harmersbach, kam 1803 an Baden und wurde danach selbständige Gemeinde. In den Präge- und Farbstempeln führte die Gemeinde im 19. Jahrhundert eine Tanne. Der Baum im Stempel der Zeit nach 1830 könnte auch als Laubbaum identifiziert werden. Der im Jahre 1901 vom Generallandesarchiv vorgelegte Wappenentwurf, der auf Wunsch der Gemeinde eine Linde und einen Biber enthielt, wurde vom Gemeinderat nicht akzeptiert, gleichwohl dieses Motiv im Siegel geführt. Nach erneuten Bemühungen um ein klar festgelegtes heraldisches Kennzeichen der Gemeinde verlieh das Innenministerium am 30. Oktober 1969 das „redende" Wappen, das auch nach der Eingliederung von Prinzbach am 1. Juli 1974 unverändert beibehalten wurde.
