Object history Die Wappenfarben Rot und Gold der Reichsgrafschaft Sayn-Hachenburg sind als Feldfarben in das Ortswappen aufgenommen. Die geteilte Schrägleiste in den nassauischen Farben Blau und Gold dokumentiert die Grenze des Sayn-Hachenburgischen gegen Sayn-Altenkirchen und den noch heute sichtbaren Grenzwall mit Grenzweg. Dies war auch die Grenze zwischen dem Herzogtum Nassau und Preußen und ist heute die Kreisgrenze des Westerwaldkreises zum Landkreis Altenkirchen. Der geteilte Schild steht aber auch für die "Giesenhausener Höhe". Sie teilt als Wasserscheide die Wasserläufe zur Nister und zur Wied. Die silberne Pflugschar steht für die Landwirtschaft und der grüne Zweig mit den drei Buchenblättern symbolisiert den Wald.
