Illustration of the distribution of several key musical instruments found in Madagascar, according to their African, Indonesian or European origins, in the early 20th century. Adapted from maps in McLeod, Norma (1977), "Musical Instruments and History in Madagascar", Essays for a Humanist, Town House Press, pp. 189- 215, ISBN 77-72266. NOTE: Musical instruments are not fixed uniquely within the boundaries indicated. These are merely areas of concentration, often based on higher population density. Many of these instruments, such as the guitar and accordion, have been adopted and are played throughout the island today. Disclaimer: As a personal observation, I find some of the distribution indicated in McLeod's maps to be too restricted, possibly due to limited research literature available on musical instrument distribution available at the time. These maps are therefore meant to be used as a broad illustration and only provide a general sense of the distribution of instruments today. Lemurbaby (talk) 17:48, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
