Summary

Description
English: North polar region of Mars showing distribution of dune fields of low to high relative density (white,~0.01-0.1; gray, 0.1-0.6; black,>0.8). Wind-direction vectors (arrows) inferred from averaged dune orientations (averaged from <10 (yellow), 10-19 (orange), and ≥20 (red) measurements). Red lines and dots are exposures of the Planum Boreum cavi unit, a main source of dune sand (MOLA color shaded relief base, 5° grid, polar stereographic projection; prime meridian at bottom).
