Donald Macleod ran in the 1930 Alberta general election as a UFA candidate in the electoral district of Stony Plain, and won the seat. In the 1935 election he was defeated by Social Credit candidate William Hayes. Macleod was also a member of the board of the Alberta Livestock Pool.
