Inscriptions "To the glorious memory of the people of Dover who gave their lives for their country in the great wars 1914-1919 - 1939-1945"; bronze plaques on the Cornish granite blocks on either side of the plinth hold the names of those who gave their lives, 782 in the First World War, and 21 in the Second World War.
