Summary

Description Royal Australian Air Force North American F-51D Mustang fighters from No. 77 Squadron in maintenance at Iwakuni, Japan. 77 Sqn was originally part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan. By 1950 it was the only squadron representing the RAAF in Japan and was preparing to leave the country on 25 June 1950. Between 2 July 1950 and 6 April 1951 the squadron flew 3,800 sorties before the unit converted to the Gloster Meteor F 8.
