Summary

Description

A U.S. Navy Grumman F9F-8 Cougar of Attack Squadron 44 (VA-44) "Hornets" pictured on the starboard bow catapult on board the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga (CVA-60) during the carrier's shakedown cruise in the Caribbean Sea. Note the jet blast deflector that instead of being raised from the flight deck is on a swivel device.

VA-44 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 4 (CVG-4) aboard the Saratoga for her shakedown cruise from 18 August to 15 October 1956.
