Summary

Description
English: The bridge, which carries Blackfriars Street over the River Irwell, dates from 1818-20, the work of Thomas Wright, who won a competition. "Three stately arches with coupled Ionic columns arising from cutwaters". Grade II listed. Catching the sun behind is Fairburn House, now the Renaissance Hotel, built as offices by local practice, Cruickshank & Seward, 1972, in their favoured white concrete.
