Caption

Mrs. Francis Stevens Hall, widow of the slain New Brunswick rector. It is the first picture taken of her since her husband was found dead. She granted an interview to reporters in which she denied all knowledge of the manner of the demise of Rev. Edward Wheeler Hall and Mrs. James Mills, who was murdered with him. Notes on New York Daily News archive

It appears that Getty Images bought the photo archive of the New York Daily News which contained images distributed by Pacific & Atlantic Photos and other photo agencies like the Associated Press and the Newspaper Enterprise Association. The Library of Congress also has copies of some of the images in their archive. See the notes in the category for the photo agency to see the copyright status for each agency. Images are considered published (made available to the public) when distributed to newspapers, even if they never appeared in a newspaper or magazine. Many of the images related to the trial that followed the Hall-Mills murder were distributed by the Associated Press and the Newspaper Enterprise Association. Copies of them are held by the Franklin Township Public Library archive, and the Somerset County Courthouse archive, and the Rutgers University Library archive. Many of the images have copies available for sale at eBay attributed to the Newspaper Enterprise Association.
