James Ritchie (Snr) (1850 - 1925) was an archaeologist and school teacher from Edinburgh. He was appointed headmaster of Port Elphinstone Public School, Aberdeenshire, in 1875. Details from a book, Some Antiquities of Aberdeenshire and its Borders (1927), written by his son James Ritchie (Jnr.) (1882 – 1958) was a Scottish naturalist and archaeologist, who was Professor of Natural History at the University of Edinburgh 1936–52 and President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh 1952-1958.[1]
