English: Closeup of the interior of a single flower of Fritillaria uva-vulpis. Flower borne by a cultivated specimen of this attractive species, purchased at the plant centre of Alnwick (pronounced “Annick”) Gardens, in the county of Northumberland, United Kingdom. Such a shot of the interior of a flower of this attractive species is somewhat difficult to obtain, owing to the pendent/nodding position in which the flower is borne on the plant.. This shot was achieved by lying a container plant on its side on a wooden shelf in such a position that bright sunlight could fall upon the yellow flower interior with its tracery of dark striations. Note also the bluntly three-angled, club-like stigma with its papillose exterior (i.e. covered in prickly papillae like those of a cat’s tongue) and the ripe yellow anthers of roughly ‘X’-like cross section.
