Summary

Description
English: Front entrance to Eastnor Castle. Home of the Hervey-Bathurst family and open to the public. Also used for weddings, corporate events, film sets, etc. The funding of the castle came about via a marriage between the Cocks family (banking wealth of the Biddulph Bank, now incorporated into Barclays Bank) and the Somers family (large inheritance of Lord Chancellor Somers). The 1st Earl Somers begin the construction of the castle in 1810. From a distance, this Norman Revival building was intended to create the impression of a medieval fortress guarding the Welsh Borders (see 447176). Further construction and embellishments were made through to the 1870s. Well worth a tour of the house with its fabulous interiors. http://www.eastnorcastle.com/
