Deutsch: Gastraphetes des griechischen Ingenieurs Heron von Alexandria (Manuskript-Zeichnung).
  • Zur Erklärung: Die waagerechte grüne Linie mit den beiden nach vorne gebogenen Enden stellt den Doppelreflex-Bogen dar. Die darunter verlaufende rote Linie ist die Bogensehne, die auf der Mittelsäule (in dickem Rot vertikal gezeichnet) nach hinten gespannt wird. Die für den Gastraphetes typische halbrunde Bauchstütze befindet sich am unteren Bildrand in rot.
English: Gastraphetes of the Greek engineer Hero of Alexandria (manuscript illumination).
  • Explanation: The green horizontal line with its forwardly bent limbs represents the double recurve bow. Below in red runs the bow string, which is drawn on the stock (the vertical thick red line). It was cocked by pressing down the stomach in a concavity at the rear of the stock which is the curved structure (red) at the bottom.
