Summary

[edit]

In the township of Massena during the early 1900s, a power canal was built from the St.Lawrence River to the Grasse River. A hydropower dam was built at the Grasse River end of the Canal. The river was then dredged to 15 feet from the powerhouse down to where the river actually meets the St.Lawrence River. The picture above shows the dredging operation. The picture is scanned from a postcard published before 1923, and the card holds no company name.
