Other information The copyright status is unclear; the game was written by Doug Dyment in 1968, but freely distributed and modified by users. A modified BASIC version of the game was printed (including source code) in BASIC Computer Games by David Ahl, making the copyright holder of the game's text possibly him, the book publisher, or Dyment, but in any case not likely technically public domain, even if the game itself may be interpreted as public domain.
