Summary

Description

HUNDINGSBANE'S RETURN TO VALHAL

From a painting by Ernest Wallcousins (en:1883-en:1976).

Published in: MacKenzie, Donald A.: Teutonic Myth and Legend, London, Gresham Publications; 1912. Paperback reprint University Press of the Pacific, 2003; ISBN 1-410-20740-4. As the image was thus published pre-1923, it is in the public domain in the U.S. As the artist died only in 1976, though, it is unlikely to be in the public domain anywhere else.

Addendum: According to this chart the copyright of works published between 1909 and 1923 outside the US, as this one was, is a difficult subject. I don't know whether the book in question was published in accordance with US formalities. If it was it's definitely in the public domain. If it wasn't then that chart doesn't really say but it implies that since it was published in English it should be safe. Haukur 15:45, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

This is a faithful photographic reproduction of a two-dimensional, public domain work of art. The work of art itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
Public domain
Public domain
This media file is in the public domain in the United States. This applies to U.S. works where the copyright has expired, often because its first publication occurred prior to January 1, 1929, and if not then due to lack of notice or renewal. See this page for further explanation.

United States
United States
This image might not be in the public domain outside of the United States; this especially applies in the countries and areas that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works, such as Canada, Mainland China (not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany, Mexico, and Switzerland. The creator and year of publication are essential information and must be provided. See Wikipedia:Public domain and Wikipedia:Copyrights for more details.
The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain".
This photographic reproduction is therefore also considered to be in the public domain in the United States. In other jurisdictions, re-use of this content may be restricted; see Reuse of PD-Art photographs for details.
