English: Redstone Missile RS/CC-49 Jupiter C BEACON 1 satellite launch from Launch Complex LC5 at Cape Canaveral, Florida October 23, 1958. RS was the designation for missiles built by the ABMA at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville. CC- was the designation for missiles built by the Chrysler Corporation. Premature upper stage separation causing structural failure prevented BEACON 1 from being successfully placed in orbit.
