Summary

Description
Deutsch: Postkarte eines Häftlings aus dem de:KZ Dachau vom Januar 1939
English: Postcard from a prisoner at en:Dachau concentration camp, postmarked January 1, 1939 from Dachau 3. The text on the left of the card contains the rules for correspondence with a prisoner. Each prisoner was allowed two letters or cards a month. Letters had to be legible, in ink, 15 lines and only one page. The paper had to be a "normal" size. Envelopes could not be lined (with paper). Stamps could be sent, a maximum of five at 12 pfennigs each. Postcards were restricted to 10 lines, no pictures allowed. Money could be sent. Newspapers could be sent, but only through the Dachau post office. Packages were not allowed "since the prisoners can buy everything at the camp". Number 5 states, "Requests to the camp command for release from protective custody are futile." Number 6 states that permission to speak with or visit prisoners is categorically forbidden. The final sentence advises that all mail that does not adhere to the rules will be destroyed.
