Summary

Description
English: :AD 300s, possibly from Turkey. This 50mm square plaque is likely to have been part of a belt.
Gold plaque composed of two square open-work (opus interrasile) panels set back-to-back and edged with coarse beaded wire. The front is decorated with the figure of a mounted huntress riding to right with uplifted right arm; below the prancing horse, the figure of a lion to right; behind the rider, a tree; all executed in engraved and punched gold sheet reserved against an open-work background. The background consists of a double cable border enclosing vegetal scrollwork. In each corner of the panel, an eight-lobed motif which is replicated on the reverse in ten rows of ten. The upper row of beading is threaded on a gold pin.
