日本語: 1897（明治30）年に東京高等商業学校附属外国語学校として創立された本学が、1899（明治32）年、東京外国語学校として独立する際に、神田乃武校長をはじめ各教官協議の結果、この徴章を制定した。炬火（たいまつ）は、「光は世を照らす」ことを意味し、Lはラテン語のLinguaの頭文字をとった。左右の羽翼については、独立当初に教授した8語学科を意味しているといわれている。 |
