English: Lydia Édith Eustis was born in New Orleans (United States) on November 27, 1871. She is the daughter of Allain Eustis and Anaïs de Sentmanat (Saint Manat). His family, of Marigny and Eustis, are two of the founders of New Orleans. His maternal grandfather, Bernard de Marigny, developed the Faubourg de Marigny and the north coast of the city after being president of the Senate of the State of Louisiana. His paternal grandfather, George Eustis, was a benefactor of the University of Louisiana (now Tulane University) and founder of the Pontchartrain Railroad. His father Allain Eustis was honorary vice-consul in Brazil and his brother James Biddle Eustis was a Judge Advocate during the Civil War and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Louisiana for many years, a member of the House of Representatives and a member of the Louisiana Senate and then Ambassador to Paris. The young Lydia Eustis spent her youth in Paris and New Orleans, surrounded by diplomats. Fluent in three languages, Lydia Eustis embarked on a career of twenty years as an accomplished soprano, having studied for years with Mrs Marie Trélat (1837-1914) at the Paris Conservatoire. She has performed in leading theaters across Europe and the United States, where she met her husband, Jonkheer John Loudon (born March 18, 1866 in The Hague and died November 11, 1955 in Wassenaar), a Dutch diplomat in Beijing, London, Tokyo, Paris and Washington. He was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in The Hague. John Loudon and Lydia Eustis were married in Paris in the 16th arrondissement on January 29, 1906. The couple had no children. Lydia Édith Eustis has a sister, Anita Maria Eustis, wife of Georges Kinen, social singer and also a pupil of Marie Trélat. The two sisters frequently sang in the aristocratic salons of Paris, including that of Lord and Lady Henry Standish, in the early 1900s. Lydia Eustis died on December 24, 1957 in Wassenaar, The Netherlands, at the age of 86.

Parlant couramment trois langues, Lydia Eustis s'est lancée dans une carrière d'une vingtaine d'années en tant que soprano accomplie, après avoir étudié pendant des années avec Madame Marie Trélat (1837-1914) au Conservatoire de Paris. Elle a joué dans des théâtres de premier plan à travers l'Europe et les États-Unis, où elle a rencontré son mari, Jonkheer John Loudon (né le 18 mars 1866 à La Haye et mort le 11 novembre 1955 à Wassenaar), diplomate néerlandais à Pékin, Londres, Tokyo, Paris et Washington. Il a été nommé ministre des Affaires étrangères à La Haye. John Loudon et Lydia Eustis se sont mariés à Paris dans le 16ème arrondissement, le 29 janvier 1906. Le couple n'a pas eu d'enfants. Lydia Édith Eustis a une sœur, Anita Maria Eustis, épouse de Georges Kinen, cantatrice mondaine et élève également de Marie Trélat. Les deux sœurs ont chanté fréquemment dans les salons aristocratiques de Paris dont celui de Lord et Lady Henry Standish, au début des années 1900. Lydia Eustis meurt le 24 décembre 1957 à Wassenaar aux Pays-Bas à l'âge de 86 ans. |
