Fair use in Maytag[edit]
Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- The image is used as the primary means of visual identification of the Maytag Repairman, a significant advertising mascot for Maytag that is discussed at length within the article.
- The image is used to provide irreplaceable visual information in the context of an informative article about the company that used this advertising character.
- It is a low resolution image cropped from an advertisement for Maytag.
- The Maytag Repairman is a copyrighted, fictional character; Gordon Jump, the depicting actor, is furthermore deceased. It is accordingly impossible to replace the image with an uncopyrighted or freely licensed image.
