English: Megalosaurus was the first genus of non-avian dinosaur to be validly named. A Middle Jurassic megalosaur, this species played a pivotal role in scientific understanding of prehistoric life. The creature stood at 6 m in length and weighed around 1 t. A notable theropod in its own right, the original specimen, along with Iguanodon and Hylaeosaurus defined what is considered a “dinosaur” to this day.
