Size: 60 cm long? Type Horizon and Locality: Early Miocene, System B Formation, Upper Site, Riversleigh, Queensland, Australia Type Specimen: QM F.20887 (AR 11466), complete left carpometacarpus

This bird is known from a single bone showing that it was a lyrebird. It was smaller than its modern counterpart. The specific name refers to the resemblance of this species to its living relative. Tyawan is the Australian Aboriginal name for the lyrebird.
