Title
Middle Saxon silver gilt pin
Description
English: Middle Saxon silver gilt pin with a flat oval to disc-shaped head. One face is chip-carved in low relief with a design comprising asymmetrical interlace and the curled body of a creature. The creature has an elongated ear and snout which curves into a flat-sectioned collar at the springing of the shank; a possible straight elongated leg crosses the curled tail and is interlaced with foliar tendrils, one ending in a globular terminal. The body and tail are decorated with tiny pecked dots. The circular-sectioned shank is slightly swollen below the mid-point before tapering to a point.
