Freiherr Hieronymus von Münchhausen stammte aus dem Hannoverischen und lebte von 1720-1792. Er war viele Jahre als Offizier in Rußland und kämpfte in zwei Kriegen gegen die Türken. Er war als ein Mann von Witz und Humor bekannt und galt als Erzähler unglaublicher Kriegs-, Jagd- und Reiseabenteuer. Bei einer Flasche guten Weines gab er gerne im Kreis seiner Freunde seine wunderbaren Reisen und Abenteuer zum Besten, die überall noch heute mit Vergnügen gelesen werden.
