Summary[edit]

Media data and Non-free use rationale
Description A collection of records, magnetic tapes, and compact discs showing music used in the Fallout video game series.
Author or
copyright owner
Myself, contains several examples of cover art by authors [Byron Miller Productions, Monolith Interactive Solutions, Neil Boyle, Michael Mendel, et. al.], other authors uncredited and/or do not meet Threshold of Originality.
Source (WP:NFCC#4) Original publication: This specific image was first created by myself and uploaded on Wikimedia Commons on March 2021. Assembled with physical examples of the music formats in question from personal collection. Decca 78, RCA Victor LP, 45 record, and 8-track tape cartridge were originally offered to the public in 1941, 1960, 1959, and 1970 respectively. Transcription disc, reel to reel tape, Harmonic 78, and compact disc were not sold to the public and meant for industrial use. Offered for sale approximately in 1950, 1968, 1952, and 1998 respectively; due to nature of the industry, copyright dates are often not shown on the objects in question and are gleaned from comparable items and advertisements in period trade publications.

Immediate source: Myself, a photo montage created in Adobe Photoshop of a transcription disc, shellac 78, vinyl LP, vinyl 45, reel to reel tape, vinyl 78, 8 track tape, and compact disc from own collection. Photographed with a digital camera. Full (Archived): imgur 4Qv86nz(dot)jpg

Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Music of the Fallout series
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) This file will serve as the header image for the article "Music of the Fallout series" which uses lists of licensed copyrighted music used in the game series, some of which are represented by copyrighted album artwork. Complete removal of the copyrighted album artwork would not be an adequate substitute as it serves for illustrative and identification purposes unique to the music of Fallout. The relative size of the records and tapes to each other also serve to illustrate the article in question. Using only cropped album artwork or labels would not show the unusual sizes of the records and the unusual music formats used in the music of Fallout mentioned in the article.

Another note is that the imagemap coding used in the article also serves to illustrate the various formats to readers unfamiliar with them (or presume all records were made of vinyl). The use of one comprehensive summary image to represent the article and inform the reader was advised instead of uploading multiple.

Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
The file features images of the physical music formats that originally provided the music licensed for the Fallout video game series. The use of an illustration or tracing that is not a photograph of the objects in question would not accurately depict the physical aspects of the music formats nor the historical and obscure music formats.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) This file will serve as the only image to illustrate the "Music of the Fallout series" article. It features images of music formats that are unique to the Fallout video game series. It was not advised to include individual images of the ambient and orchestral score albums of Fallout.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
According to the Fair Use guidelines, it is permissible to use copyrighted album artwork to serve only as illustrative purposes and without which there is no alternative and viable substitution. However, several of the commercial companies and authors are defunct and no longer able to provide information on the items in question. In addition, there are images of records which do not have available album artwork, as many were recorded before the invention of the modern vinyl LP record. Reducing the overall size of the image, while possible, would render much of the text on the records illegible which serve as the identification marks of the various songs. The expanded text is to serve as a compromise, but the reader is able to zoom into the image to see the names of the song titles on the records.
Other information All records are sized correctly to scale with each other. Each format has caption below it showing the song title taken from the record label.
