Summary

Description
English: Port Moresby, New Guinea. 1943-06-26. Nine Mile Quarry was worked by native labour until 1942-02, when it was taken over by the military forces. It was then worked for periods of about six months by each of the following units:- 1st Australian Army Troops, Royal Australian Engineers; 91st And 96th United States Engineers; 2/1st Australian Pioneer Battalion; and finally by the 5th Australian Employment Company with a few engineers from the 2/1st Australian Mechanical Engineering Company. United States Army bulldozer, with an American Negro driver at the controls clears up loose rock in the quarry. Also Shown Are:- W237756 Sergeant A. Vincent, 5th Australian Employment Company; VX66358 Captain J.B. Harvey, 2/1st Australian Mechanical Engineering Company; W242894 Captain J.M. Maclennan. Mc., 5th Australian Employment Company; And W157 Lieutenant R.N.C. Towell, 5th Australian Employment Company.
