Summary

Description
English: Nuclear retention of the receptor estrogen complex in the uterus (i.e., bound estrogen receptor–estrogen complex quantity in pmol/uterus) with a single subcutaneous injection of 0.1 μg estradiol (E2), 1.0 μg estriol (E3), or a combination of 0.1 μg estradiol and 1.0 μg estriol in aqueous solution in immature rats. Each point represents the mean ± SEM of three experiments with four rats per experiment. The graph shows that estriol displaces estradiol from estrogen receptors and, due to the shorter nuclear retention of estriol, it thereby antagonizes the nuclear uptake and retention of estradiol.
