Summary

Description

Operation Triple Beam- S/MS The U.S. Marshals led a violence reduction operation in the Southern District of Mississippi from April 9-May 17. More than 270 arrests were made during “Operation Triple Beam.” Approximately 90 of the arrestees were gang members. The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, along with 20 other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, worked to target and arrest violent fugitives and criminal offenders wanted for homicide, felony assault and sexual assault, illegal possession of firearms, illegal drug distribution, robbery and arson. OTB resulted in the seizure of 50 firearms, including military style assault rifles, illegal narcotics valued at approximately $7,500, and approximately $26,000 in U.S. currency. In the counties of Simpson, Pearl River, Hancock, and Jefferson Davis, approximately 300 registered sex offenders were individually checked for compliance, resulting in approximately 20 arrests for sex offender registry violations. Law enforcement efforts took place primarily in the cities of Jackson, Gulfport, Biloxi, Hattiesburg, and Meridian and focused on fugitive apprehension investigations, firearms and narcotics investigations, gang-related intelligence gathering, and proactive sex offender compliance initiatives. The overarching goal of OTB is to bring relief to the residents of a community by strategically and actively pursuing the gang members and criminals most responsible for the worst crime and violence in that community.
