Summary

Original plan of Germantown by Francis Daniel Pastorius in 1688. Note that the corners of the town were marked by trees. Main Street (the modern Germantown Ave), along which two rows of lots were created, was laid out on an ancient Lenni Lenape trail. The western border is today Wissahickon Ave, the southern border is Roberts Ave, and the southeastern border is Wistar St. Image from Pennypacker, Samuel W. (1899) "The Settlement of Germantown and the Beginning of the German Emigration to North America" Philadelphia, William Campbell.
