Summary[edit]

File information
Description

Detachable 2-page illustration of Surya Namaskar sequence from Pant Pratinidhi's 1928 book The Ten-Point Way to Health: Surya Namaskars

  • The illustration shows Pant Pratinidhi's original approach to the practice of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) as an exercise, with his practical intent to have the 2-page spread detached from the book for use as visual guidance while exercising.
  • Show how Pant Pratinidhi presented (and apparently introduced) Downward Dog Pose, twice, in his 1928 illustration of the Surya Namaskar sequence.
  • Show how Pant Pratinidhi presented (and apparently introduced) Ashtanga Namaskara, with the forehead touching the floor, in his 1928 illustration of the Surya Namaskar sequence, before Krishnamacharya took over the sequence and swapped the pose out for Chaturanga Dandasana, as discussed in the article, leaving Ashtanga Namaskara as a historical curiosity though it is still sometimes practised, e.g. in Sivananda Yoga.
