English: This 53-foot Historical Landmark at the Brickell Avenue Bridge, consist of the 17-foot sculpture "Tequesta family" sitting on top of the 36-foot "Pillar of History". The bronze column depicts the Miami River descending in a spiral and the lives of the Tequesta indians (Miami's first inhabitants), is narrated graphically along the river, and serves as a lesson on the history of Miami and its beginnings. Sculptor Carbonell after completing 3/5 of the carving of the column suffered a stroke, that left him paralyzed and unable to move his left hand, after two months, he finished the carving with his right hand.
